High-frequency current transformers (HFCT) are well suited as sensors for measuring transient signals on power cables, such partial discharges (PD). If the HFCT is designed and its measurement bandwidth matches of signal to be measured, high sensitivities can achieved. However, optimizing design a specific difficult task because various parameters affect transfer function. In addition, there little helpful literature relationships between resulting sensitivity/bandwidth. To give guidance fill this research gap, article aims provide all necessary information development. For purpose, an analytical model derived validated with measurements from self-made sensors. The method their function (or impedance) presented data our manufactured prototypes given. Based these data, valuable analyzed. experience, detailed about sensor manufacturing process provided. developed effective tool simulate optimize before it built. way, quickly cost-effectively specifically required.
